Check it out before you buy: and don't believe what the rest of the reviews say. Overall Review: The reason I purchased the vulkano instead of buying another sling was the ability to automatically download to my ipad so it was ready to go the next morning. It doesn't even pretend to do that. In order to "automatically" download to the ipad, I have to schedule a recording, transfer the recorded movie from the vulkano to the ipad over wireless, a process that takes a couple of hours if the connection holds before it's ready to view on the ipad.
Defeats the whole reason I bought the vulkano instead of the sling. Pros: This is an excellent unit. Allows you to stream your video and price is better than sling. The uPnp setup makes it a snap and you can be ready to stream in less than 15 minutes!
Video quality is excellent and looks great. Have used with a US connection and even viewed overseas. The picture quality is amazing. The DVR function works great! Cons: The remote is pretty cheap and the price with the Hard Drive included is way expensive.
The guide without any storage can only hold 1 day and their tech support is not that great. Overall Review: With the problems that sling has had with networks over the years, it is nice to finally have someone to come face to face with them. Pros: Works great. Had a Hava player before and this is much much better. More reliable. Better Resolution. Locally streamed video is crisp and clean. Remote viewing relies on the speed of the internet connection, but is near local quality when fast enough.
Cons: The Youtube app is a waste of time. They could of used a faster processor in the product. Slight delays when clicking the menu when using its interface directly to switch between live tv, scheduled recordings, and settings Whereas, with the Slingbox you can change the ports to whichever ones you need for it to function, the Vulkano Flow only has two specific assigned ports to it which cannot be altered.
For example, if you wanted to use the Vulkano using someone else's wifi at a place of work or some other public place of which you have no access to their port set-up on their end, then the vulkano would not work.
You need to follow the instructions very carefully - the setup procedure is very will explained from the online instructions that you can print. Once set up these do an amazingly good job - they will enable you to record and save TV shows, movies and programs to your PC which can't be done with anything else I know of. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Pre-owned.
I have used a Vulkano Pro for about 9 years, so I am accustomed to the best. Differences with Vulkano Flow: 1. The Flow breaks up recordings from a few seconds to usually less than 30 minutes. It's impossible to set the Flow to start at a later time. The Flow and the Pro cannot exist on the same WiFi network. Which I refuse to do. Skip to main content. About this product. The Vulkano Flow can emit infrared signals on its own, but if the box doesn't respond to them mine didn't , you can plug in an included infrared blaster cable to focus the signals more precisely. With the blaster connected, my set-top box responded accurately to all commands sent from my players.
But several seconds of lag always occur, during which the player screen blacks out as it processes the command and buffers content. This can be particularly annoying when you are using a virtual jog wheel to scroll through menus embedded in other menus. You have to wait several seconds for each and every scrolling operation, so it can take half a minute or more to get to a program choice, for example. Once video playback began, however, the quality was quite good on the shows I watched on a notebook PC and on my iPad over hotel Wi-Fi.
With my iPhone, quality varied widely depending on the quality of my data connection. The players show you what sort of speed they're getting, and when the video can play at roughly kpbs or faster, it was at least watchable if not surprisingly good. The player app now allows recording directly to a mobile device.
This is available first on the iPhone and iPad, and is coming soon for Android. The app adds full DVR capabilities, so you can pause, rewind, and fast-forward through video you've recorded. On iOS, it records as an H. If you get record-happy, don't worry--you'll get a warning that you have insufficient memory. What I really like about the Vulkano system is that it lets you watch pretty much anything you could see sitting in front of your TV.
Using the virtual remote, you can not only change channels but access shows recorded on the integrated DVR, or even Comcast's on-demand content. I was able, for example, to watch the first episode of HBO's Game of Thrones in a Seattle hotel room with no real problem. The quality certainly fell short of the digital version on my inch p plasma resolution tops out at by , and Monsoon recommends using lower resolutions when outside your home network , but I encountered practically no skips or stutters.
The experience was best on my notebook PC because the player includes an actual visual replica of the Comcast remote I use at home, complete with some but not all clickable buttons.
